Maso Martis: the magic spell of a ritual that comes down to us
from farming tradition to mingle with our daily routine. This
story began in the 80s, when the Stelzer family
bought an ancient farmhouse of masadori – peasant families that
worked the land for the aristocratic landowners – in the
Martignano hills, at the foot of Monte Calisio (or
Argentario) above Trento, and made it into a place where
nature, technique and passion could come together: the
old stalls were converted for use as a cellar for ageing wine
and sparkling wines and the barns were transformed into areas
for wine-making and bottling, a laboratory, grape drying sheds,
and offices, and the hay loft became a dwelling.
The surrounding land has been cultivated since the late 19th
century, and is situated at 450 metres a.s.l., with
excellent exposure, caressed by mountain breezes. It was cleared
in 1986 when 12 hectares were planted with grapevines
which are cultivated with special care: short pruning, organic
fertilization, drip irrigation, and grape bunch thinning.
The first vintage - 150 quintals of grapes which made a base for
sparkling wine – was 1990, a date which coincides with
the start of the spumante production to which Antonio and
Roberta Stelzer have dedicated their enterprise. Even today
the pace of the maso and its land is expressed by Maso
Martis products: well-structured wines, heady fragrances,
elegant and harmonious flavours.
These are the GEMS by Maso Martis, expression of a
philosophy that makes quality a fact and essence a source of
intense delicacy. |
